【What is Edo Kiriko?】-Edo Kiriko(江戸切子) is founded by Kagaya Kyubei in 1834.
He started to carve a glass with using emery powder in Edo, now known as Tokyo.
-During Meiji Era(1868-1912), Edo Kiriko introduced to European glass cutting skill.
It combined both original and European techniques.
It is the current Edo Kiriko.
-In 2002, Edo Kiriko was designated as Japanese traditional craft by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.
【Master of Traditional Crafts-伝統工芸士】-This license is established by The Association for the Promotion of Traditional Craft Industries(DENSAN) in 1974 in Japan.
-People who want to get the license must work as a craftman in specific area for more than 12 years and live in the origin area of craftarts.
-They take exam and interview which is arranged by DENSAN.
-People who are given that license have an obligation to preserve original traditional craft.
-Nowadays, about 7,700 traditional craftsmen are registered.
【Ohba glass-大場硝子】-Toshio Ohba started in 1966.
-His son, Kazutoshi who has traditional craftsmen license takes over the workshop and creates Edo Kiriko with three staffs.
-They provide handcrafted sake cup and multipurpose-old glass which are themed Japanese four seasons.
