This medication is used for the temporary relief of congestion in the nose caused by various conditions including the common cold, sinusitis, hay fever, and allergies. It works by narrowing the blood vessels in the nose area, reducing swelling and congestion. Decongestant nose sprays and drops are also available over the counter. However, these products shouldn’t be used for more than 3 days. Your body can become dependent on them. If you become dependent on these medicines, your nose may feel even more stuffed up when you quit using them. Most sprays will go down the throat if the nozzle is not tilted towards the side. The right-hand works best on the right nostril, less burning and stinging occurs on the sides rather than the midline septum.
