Autumn Fern is a herbaceous perennial which spreads by underground stems. The new growth is a tremendous coppery-red and green which eventually turns green when it matures. It is great specimen to plant in a container or in woodland gardens where it can be allowed to spread and grow into a solid mass. When planting this fern, dig the hole twice as wide as the pot and mix rich garden soil in with your native soil, then leave the top of the root ball 1/2 inch above the ground level when filling the hole with soil. Use a slow release granular fertilizer in spring.
