This medication is used to prevent and treat minor skin infections caused by small cuts, scrapes, or burns. It is available without a prescription for self-medication. Do not use this product over large areas of the body. Even though we think of creams as being moisturizing, given their higher water content and the evaporation that occurs following application, creams are better than ointments for treating oozing or “wet” skin conditions. If your child has stitches, your doctor will tell you whether you should use an antibiotic ointment. Most cuts and scrapes heal without antibiotic ointment. But it can make the healing go faster and help reduce scarring. This combination product is used to treat minor wounds (such as cuts, scrapes, and burns) and to help prevent or treat mild skin infections. Minor skin infections and wounds usually heal without treatment, but some minor skin wounds may heal faster when an antibiotic is applied to the affected area.
